A New Direction for Prairie Coast

If you’ve been following Prairie Coast for a while, you may have noticed that things have started to look a little different around here.

New products have been appearing. I’ve been talking more about herbs, essential oils, aromatherapy, and wellness. Our room sprays have changed. Herbal-infused body care is beginning to make its way onto the shelves. And behind the scenes, I’ve been rethinking what I want Prairie Coast to become.

This isn’t an overnight rebrand or a sudden decision to leave everything we’ve built behind.

It’s an evolution.

Prairie Coast began largely as a home fragrance company. Candles have always been at the heart of what we do, and I still love creating products that make a home feel warm, nostalgic, and inviting.

But as I’ve continued my education in herbal medicine, integrative health, and aromatherapy, I’ve found myself paying more attention to something beyond scent:

What is actually inside the products we use every day?

That question has started changing the way I formulate.

From Products That Smell Good to Products Made With Purpose

For a long time, the goal of many of our products was simple: make your home smell really good.

And honestly, that still matters to me.

Scent can completely change how a room feels. It can remind you of a place, a season, a person, or a moment you haven’t thought about in years. That emotional connection to fragrance is part of what made me fall in love with candle making in the first place.

But now, I want Prairie Coast products to offer more than fragrance alone.

I want to create things that can become part of the small rituals that make up everyday life.

A botanical bath at the end of a long day.
A body oil infused with herbs and flowers.
A room spray blended with essential oils.
A candle lit while you read, journal, clean the kitchen, or settle in for the night.

Products for your home, your body, and the little moments in between.

A Bigger Focus on Ingredients

One of the biggest changes happening at Prairie Coast is behind the scenes.

I’m moving away from relying on premade product bases.

Whenever it is practical and safe to do so, I want the bases of our products to be formulated and made in-house.

That means learning what every ingredient does, why it is included, how the ingredients work together, and how the finished product should be used.

It takes more work.
It takes more testing.
And sometimes it means a product takes longer to make its way onto the website.

But I would rather take the time to understand what I’m creating than simply pour something from a premade base into a bottle and put our label on it.

That shift has already begun with some of our products, and it will continue throughout the Prairie Coast line.

Our Promise: Transparency

As Prairie Coast changes, one thing I want to be especially intentional about is transparency.

I want you to be able to turn over one of our products, read the ingredient list, and understand what you’re looking at.

And when an ingredient does have a name that sounds unfamiliar, I want to be able to explain exactly what it is and why it belongs in the formula.

No vague promises.
No pretending that every ingredient has to sound pretty or botanical to have a purpose.

Just thoughtful formulation and honest information about what is inside the products you bring into your home and use on your body.

You’ll also start seeing more education alongside our products,  information about herbs, essential oils, ingredients, formulations, and the reasons I choose them.

Because I don’t want Prairie Coast to simply sell you something.

I want you to understand it, too.

What About the Candles?

Candles are staying.

They’re part of Prairie Coast’s story, and I can’t imagine this brand without them.

But they will be evolving.

I’ve been working toward a more botanical approach to home fragrance, including experimenting with beeswax, essential oils, and new formulations.

This part of the transition will take time because candles require testing... a lot of testing, and I’m not interested in rushing something simply so I can say it’s “natural.”

The candles you see today will not disappear overnight.

Instead, you’ll slowly begin to see new options introduced as I develop, test, and feel confident in them.

The same applies to many of our existing products.

This is a gradual shift, not a dramatic overnight replacement of everything Prairie Coast has ever made.

The Beginning of a real Prairie Coast Apothecary

You may also start seeing the word apothecary around Prairie Coast more often.

Traditionally, an apothecary was a place where herbs, botanical preparations, remedies, and household preparations were made and sold.

And while Prairie Coast is not trying to become a medical practice or replace your healthcare provider, that old-world idea of an apothecary feels incredibly aligned with where the brand is headed. (Like a real one. Not just a facade or aesthetic. The real deal.)

A place filled with herbs.
Botanical body care.
Bath preparations.
Aromatherapy.
Home fragrance.
Natural home goods.
Products made slowly, intentionally, and with an understanding of the ingredients behind them.

That is the direction I see for Prairie Coast.

Learning as I Grow

Another piece of this chapter that matters deeply to me is acknowledging that I am still learning.

My education in herbal medicine, aromatherapy, and integrative health is ongoing, and I want to bring you along for that process.

You’ll probably see experiments.
You’ll see products being tested and refined.
You may see a formula change because I learned something new or found a better way to make it.

To me, that isn’t a weakness.

It’s part of being responsible about what I create.

I would rather continue learning, adjusting, and improving than pretend I already know everything there is to know.

Still Prairie Coast

Even with all of these changes, so much of Prairie Coast will stay the same.

I still want our products to feel cozy.

A little nostalgic.

Inspired by home, nature, seasons, old kitchens, gardens, books, and the quiet rituals of everyday life.

That part isn’t going anywhere.

We’re just giving it deeper roots.

Prairie Coast is slowly becoming a place where home fragrance, herbalism, aromatherapy, botanical body care, and everyday wellness can exist together.

Not perfection.
Not fear-based wellness.
Not a list of things you’re supposed to eliminate from your life.

Just thoughtful products, transparent ingredients, and a growing connection between the things we use every day and the natural world they can come from.

Welcome to the next chapter of Prairie Coast.
